of The American Horse Breeder, and the book is a
compilation of his articles that appeared in that magazine. The book
contains a valuable historical preface by Peter C. Kellogg (Hark
Comstock), one of the leading harness writers and an outstanding

5/8ths inches by 12 3/8ths inches, each side containing an original
albumen photograph of a notable American horse, each 5 3/8ths by 8
inches. Printed captions beneath each photograph, and all original
tissue guards present. An exceptional copy of an exceedingly rare and

in Motion. 1882, profusely illustrated, 57 plates, including
11 in color. A giant work, both in size and importance. This
monumental work, sponsored by Gov. Leland Stanford of California,
proved, through the instantaneous photography of Edweard Muybridge,
the theory of motion in horses and other quadrupeds, and won Stanford
a $25,000 bet that a horse trotted with all four feet off the ground
at once. A scarce and exceptional book. Preface page missing, first
7 pages have slits (not affecting text or pictures) in upper corner,
as if owner intended to mount photographs on the pages. Weighs 7
