2006 Stanley F. Bergstein Messenger AwardEach year HTA honors an individual for outstanding and meritorious service to the sport. The award honors HTA's longtime executive vice president and is named for the English thoroughbred imported to the United States in 1788 that became the foundation sire of the breed of American harness horse. It is patterned after England's Gimcrack award, with the honoree delivering a "state of the sport" message at HTA's annual meeting. *David S. The award is based on a formula awarding points from 25 down to 1 for money won, races won and Universal Driver Rating Standings in the top 25 nationally, and a 25-point bonus for finishing in the top 25 in all three categories. It is one of the most difficult and prestigious awards to win in harness racing.
