HTA HONORS NOVA WINNERS

The racing secretaries of HTA’s 38 members have selected their champion horses of 2003, and the owners will be honored with bronze Nova statuettes of their champions at the annual Night of Champions dinner at the Sanibel Harbour Resort in Florida March 5. The awards dinner will conclude the annual joint meeting of HTA and the Thoroughbred Racing Associations.

The winners are:

2-year-old -pacing colt: I AM A FOOL, owned by David Brooks’ Perfect World Enterprises of Old Westbury, NY. The Life Sign colt won 9 of 15 starts and $1,159,062 in 2003.

2-year-old pacing filly: KIKIKATIE, owned by Lee and Linda DeVisser of Holland, Michigan. A winner of 14 of 15 starts, the Real Artist filly earned $788,044 in her first year of racing.

3-year-old pacing colt: NO PAN INTENDED, owned by Bob Glazer’s Peter Pan Stables of Pepper Pike, Ohio. Winner of the Triple Crown of Pacing and the Breeders Crown among his 17 victories in 21 starts in 2003, the Pacific Fella colt earned $1,465,852 during the season.

3-year-old pacing filly: ARMBRO AMORETTO, owned by Allan Saul’s Big Al’s Stable, Thornhill, Ontario. A winner of 11 of 19 starts and first, second and third 17 times in those races, the Artsplace filly won $800,142.

Older pacer: ETERNAL CAMNATION, owned by the Eternal Camnation Stable (Jim Hardesty, Jeff and Dorothy Miller and the Jeff Miller Stable). A winner of 11 of 20 races and $908,346 in 2003, the Cam Fella mare sent her lifetime earnings for five seasons of racing to $3,385,398.

2-year-old trotting colt: CANTAB HALL, owned by George Segal’s Brittany Farms, Versailles, KY; Frank and Gerald Antonacci’s Lindy Racing Stable, Enfield, CT; Jerry Silva, Bellmore, NY; and Deborah and Lou Domiano’s Sampson Street Stable, Old Forge, PA. Undefeated in 10 starts, Cantab Hall, a son of Self Possessed, won $461,337 in his freshman season.

2-year-old trotting filly: FOREVER STARLET, owned by Al Libfeld, Pickering, Ontario, and Marvin Katz and Sam Goldband, Toronto, Ontario. The Self Possessed filly never finished back of second in 12 starts, winning 8 and finishing second 4 times as she won $690,717.

3-year-old trotting colt: MR. MUSCLEMAN, owned by Adam Victor, New York City. A $2,000 yearling by Muscles Yankee, Mr. Muscleman emerged as the champion 3-year-old colt of 2003, winning 8 of 17 races including the $585,000 Breeders Crown, the $189,360 Kentucky Futurity, and the $972,545 Canadian Trotting Classic enroute to a $1,178,115 season.

3-year-old trotting filly: SOUTHWIND ALLAIRE, owned by Robert Anderson, St. Thomas, Ontario, and David Willmot, King City, Ontario. The Valley Victory filly won 6 of 16 starts, was first, second or third in 13 of those races, and earned $596,153.

Older Trotter: ROTATION, owned by Ely T. Rishahug Iversen’s Norwegian Viking Stable of Oslo, Norway. The Balanced Image 4-year-old finished four times first and three times second in 10 starts, including the $215,000 American-National, the $630,110 Maple Leaf Trot and the $450,000 Nat Ray for seasonal earnings of $760,590.
